March Exercise of the Month

Changing direction is a primary skill in almost every sport. The ability to accelerate and decelerate at sudden times is essential and the foundation to explosive strength. Many injuries occur during these explosive movements of acceleration and deceleration; therefore, learning proper form during training will assist in training your body to proper form. In lateral box jumps, the goal is to jump high to the side with two feet and land on the outside foot, bend the knee, and pause. Return to the box and go to the opposite side. This exercise not only works on deceleration, but balance and stability.
How to Perform:
• Bend knees and swing arms up to explosively jump up and laterally.
• Land single legged on the foot furthest outside.
• Bend the knee of the landing leg and pause for 2-3 seconds.
• Return to the box and repeat on the opposite side.
• 3 sets: 6x each leg: 12 total
